The Food Truck Revolution

Welcome to LA Bus Fare. I am starting this blog because I am slightly obsessed with the Food Truck Revolution that is exploding today. Although I cannot claim to be a food truck connoisseur (I've only done one food truck), this platform gives me an excuse to explore the many eateries on wheels that have popped up all over Southern California in the past couple of years.

Kogi, the 'pioneer' of food trucks, ignited the food truck revolution in an unconventional way. They did not spend a lot of money marketing their business through use of newspaper ads or colorful brochures. They used social networking, Twitter in particular, to create a buzz. It was up to the customer to wait with bated breath on where the truck would next park its kitchen. Once the Twitter update goes out, like little roaches on a bread crumb, the masses swarm to get a taste of short rib tacos, Kogi Sliders or a Kimchi Quesadilla. I patiently waited two hours with three kids in the truck and an impatient dad in the parking lot of a Barnes and Noble just to get a taste. And boy was it gooooood.

I quoted the word pioneer because although Kogi seemingly started the food truck craze, taco trucks and the like have been in Southern California since the beginning of time. It just so turned out that operating a food truck is a lot more simple than opening a restaurant and for the countless restaurateurs with little capital and big dreams, this new revolution is beneficial in launching their businesses as well as giving the public a fun new eating experience.

My intention for LA Bus Fare is to combine my love of writing with my love of eating, as well as discover some great new fare along the way. Hope you enjoy!
